Article: Air Force Plans Flight Demonstration of Innovative Composite Cargo Aircraft.

The Air Force says it intends to sponsor the flight demonstration of a proof-of-concept aircraft within the next three years that utilizes affordable lightweight composite structures and additional technologies applicable to the future short-takeoff-and-landing (STOL) cargo aircraft or family of mobility platforms that it eyes post 2020 for tactical roles.

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) announced the Advanced Composite Cargo Aircraft Flight Demonstrator program in a broad agency announcement on Dec. 15. The two-phased effort, which has a notional start date of late March 2007, is planned to run 30 months. The service ...
