JERUSALEM _ The prime minister of Lithuania, on a state visit to Israel, said Sunday that he would seek extradition of Aleksandras Lileikis of Norwood, Mass., for his alleged role in the Holocaust, a move that would greatly speed bringing the 87-year-old to trial.
But Efraim Zuroff of the Simon Wiesenthal Center dismissed the assertion of Prime Minister Adolfas Slezevicius as empty rhetoric, saying the Lithuanian authorities have consistently promised cooperation and just as consistently done nothing to follow up.
