Senators Charles Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton and leaders of veterans organizations are trying to prevent the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from closing the Veterans Administration medical centers in Manhattan and Canandaigua in western New York. I don't doubt their sincerity, but they are not proposing better health care for veterans.
Even veterans, who often complain that they receive disrespectful treatment and uneven health care, are not thinking clearly about how to demand the quality care promised in return for serving their country.
