Jan. 16--KELLOGG -- Darrel Gusa has hunted in all kinds of weather, from the heat of Mexico and Africa to the subzero temperatures of the Canadian Arctic. One of his three sons, Doug, said his father's experiences in extreme climates likely helped him survive a winter night in the Minnesota woods despite being injured. "He polar-bear hunted, and that was two weeks of 50 below," Doug said, referring to a trip two or three years ago.
