There is no shortage of paperwork created by the five-year-old case of James Cahill, a death row inmate convicted in Syracuse of poisoning his wife in 1998.
When the state's highest court considers Cahill's appeal on Monday, the judges will review a 43-volume case file, with more than 28,000 pages of transcripts, legal papers and documents.
State taxpayers paid $125,673.99 just to make enough paper and electronic copies of Cahill's file for all the judges and lawyers involved, according to the state Court of Appeals.
