CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs placed All-Star outfielder Sammy Sosa on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with an irritated right big toe.
Sosa had the toenail removed in a procedure at Northwestern University Hospital after it hadn't responded to treatment.
``I can promise you he was in a lot of agony,'' Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said.
Sosa hadn't homered since a May 1 game against San Francisco.
``I've been bothered by the toe for the last month,'' Sosa said in a team news release. ``It just wasn't getting any better.'' Athletics: Third baseman Eric Chavez left the game against the Yankees ...
