MECHANICVILLE -- New York State Electric & Gas Corp. wants to close the customer service portion of its office here as part of a cost-saving move, but the state Public Service Commission hasn't given the green light for that yet.
While NYSEG told customers this month the Mechanicville center on Werner Road and 12 others would close on Feb. 7, the utility told the PSC it would keep them open for two more weeks.
``We want to make sure that customers have viable alternatives, if in fact the offices are going to close,'' said PSC spokesman Dave Flanagan.
NYSEG officials have said the closings are necessary because it's being pinched by $205 million ...
