Jan. 17--EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Raised in rural Tiptonville, Tenn., the eldest of seven children, Jerry Reese learned to master the responsibilities handed him by his mother, who worked in a garment factory and a state penitentiary to provide for the family.
"That's why I've always felt that I could do more than the next guy," Reese said. "I've always trusted my ability."
It was that quality that convinced Reese in 1994 to stray from the career track that led to his dream job as coach at Tennessee-Martin, his alma mater, and become an NFL regional scout with the Giants.
