Jan. 17--MCALESTER -- It may take at least two weeks before electrical power is restored to much of the city, local officials said Tuesday.
About 1,400 electric crews from more than a half-dozen states have converged on McAlester to repair the damage from a weekend of freezing rain that downed power lines and toppled about 900 electric poles citywide.
At City Hall, City Manager Bart Van Nieuwenhuise said he has heard from American Electric Power-Public Service Company of Oklahoma that it might take 10 to 12 days to restore power to the city's 18,000 residents.
