Reasons for loving it
I am dismayed by Thursday's op-ed piece by John Yates and Os Guinness, "Why we left the Episcopal Church." It is full of mean-spirited bile that distorts and misleads.
They set up a straw-man, Bishop John Spong, whose books have been very controversial, as though he represents the average Episcopalian, and then define the Episcopal Church by his writings.
They claim that the American Episcopal Church no longer believes the historic, orthodox Christian faith common to all believers. That is a slanderous falsehood that demeans the faith of faithful, loving, compassionate people.
