Legislative Mandate

This report was mandated by section 6136 of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1989, Public Law 101-239. The mandate directed the Department of Health and Human Services to "...conduct a study to determine the adequacy and appropriateness of payment amounts..." by Medicare for ambulance services in rural areas, for services furnished by different types of ambulance companies, and for different levels of service.
