In 1799, Schenectady officials renamed some of city's original streets.
Albany Path became State Street and what was once known as Niskayuna Street would now be called Union Street, after Union College, founded just a few years earlier.
Although there are no signs delimiting the Upper Union Street Neighborhood, most agree the residential and commercial enclave to the east of the college is bounded by Union and Nott streets, Glenwood Boulevard and the Niskayuna town line.
Many of the streets running perpendicular to Union Street are quiet, suburbanesque roadways lined with trees.
