THE rising cost of stamp duty is seriously affecting people's decisions to move house, according to a survey carried out by internet site PrimeMove.com.
Almost 50% of those surveyed said they are deterred from moving because of the high cost of stamp duty, which raked in pounds 4.6bn for the Treasury in 2005/2006 - an increase of 175% in the last five years.
