Your April 4 editorial ``Smoke and mirrors'' demonstrates the willingness of supporters of the smoking ban to accept the junk economics New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg released recently rather than the facts about the impact of the ban (including news that appeared in your very paper).
While the Bloomberg administration claims that tax receipts are up one year after the ban, the data failed to control for any mitigating factors, including a 4.5 percent increase in the sales tax rate and inflation of about 2.5 percent. Controlling for these factors alone ...
