To make it as a composer, you usually need a certain amount of hubris and tenacity. But Max Lifchitz is a humble guy.

Sure, he's tenacious enough to run a New York City concert series since 1980 and an independent record label since 1992. But the pianist lacks the self-promotion gene, and seldom gives much prominence to his own music in the concerts he conducts or in the many CDs he produces.
