Mayor Jerry Jennings' campaign ads have him positioned alongside African-American kids as the narrator boasts of his accomplishments in Albany. These ads would have one believe that his office is hard at work giving opportunities to minorities. The fact is just the opposite is true. One just has to compare the percentage of African-Americans' makeup in the city of Albany overall to the ones who are employed on the mayor's staff.
The Times Union reported that African-Americans represent 1 percent of the professional ranks of decision-makers in Jennings' administration. The most recent census listed African-Americans at 38 percent of Albany's population, and that ...
