COLONIE - Seeking shelter from heavy rain and gray skies, Capital Region residents might not have realized something record-breaking was going on outside.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Tammy and a cold front conspired to soak the Capital Region with its most-ever rainfall Saturday for the date.

The 2.39 inches that fell between midnight and 10:30 p.m. eclipsed the previous record of 1.67 inches set on Oct. 8, 1903.

But rain total in the Capital Region was a drop in the bucket compared with what happened in the Catskill Mountains. Meteorologists said as much as 8 inches fell there on Friday and Saturday, swelling creeks and ...
