The best meals start with a good yarn.
I find telling a good story keeps everyone's mind off the quality of my cooking, but good cooks can use stories to keep the taste of a meal lingering in the memory.
Sometimes, however, the recipes get lost in the stories. For example, "Stone Soup" is one of those stories most of us tell our children, but not one of my 17 cookbooks had a recipe. Or the story.
That is just wrong. So we decided to give you a recipe you can paste in the back of your favorite cookbook. And we're including the story. It is literally the stuff of legend. (OK, if you want to quibble, ...
