Q. What are the Daily Values (DV's) given on the new nutrition labels and how do they compare to the USRDA's that were on the old nutrition labels?
A. Don't let the new values throw you for a loop. Despite all the hoopla over changes in the label, for the most part, the new DV numbers are the same as the 20-year-old U.S. Recommended Daily Allowances. The USRDA for vitamin C, for example, was 60 milligrams. The DV for vitamin C is 60 milligrams. The USRDA for zinc was 15 milligrams. The DV for zinc is 15 milligrams. So it goes down the line for 19 vitamins and minerals. Likewise, a food that used to provide 25% of the USRDA for calcium now provides 25% of the DV ...
