Q: I read somewhere that in a pinch, you can make brown sugar from white sugar and molasses. Do you know the proportions?
A: On the Internet site http://www.thriftyfun.com, the proportions are listed as 2 tablespoons molasses to 1 cup white granulated sugar. The molasses is mixed into the sugar with a fork until evenly distributed. The result may be used in any recipe calling for brown sugar. The Cook's Thesaurus (http://www.foodsubs.com) recommends using 1 tablespoon molasses per cup of sugar for light brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons molasses per cup for dark brown ...
