The battle between Big Bertha and driving irons manufactured by Cypress, Calif.-based Roger Cleveland Golf Co. is heading from the tee to the court _ U.S. District Court in San Diego.
Callaway Golf Co., the Carlsbad, Calif., manufacturer of the popular Big Bertha driving iron, said Friday that it has filed a federal lawsuit against Cleveland.
The lawsuit asks the court to decide whether a May 31 patent that Cleveland received for a golf-club vibration-absorbing system is valid and whether the Big Bertha club violates that patent.
Cleveland officials were surprised by the lawsuit, which does not seek monetary damages.
