TROY - If you passed the open doors of State Street's Christ Church on Sunday morning, maybe you saw the four purple-eyed Mr. Potato Heads staring out from the church's flat-panel televisions.
The vintage mix-and-match toy was the metaphorical backdrop for the Rev. Nina Nichols' first message as pastor: The church is one body, many parts.
Nichols, who started Sunday, is the newest part. She also is the first female senior pastor for a historic congregation that traces its Troy roots back 200 years.
