Jan. 19--The city is following through on its promise to save energy.

Responding to a recommendation of the Green Ribbon Commission, which Mayor Graham Richard formed in March, the city has formulated its first energy policy to promote energy savings and cleaner air.

The policy, effective immediately, instructs all city employees to turn off their office equipment or put it in energy-saving mode at the end of each day. Also, city vehicles won't idle more than five minutes, with exceptions allowed for traffic conditions and public-safety functions. The genesis of the energy policy was Richard's 2005 Green City ...
