NEW YORK -- Mass market skin care has developed a new wrinkle.

After years of relegating treatment products to the less glamorous health and beauty aids aisles, major drugstore and discount retailers are making space for skin care in their cosmetics departments as the brands become more high-tech and salable.

Even though health and beauty aids aisles are far away from cosmetics in many stores, they did offer skin care plenty of space. Attracted by the space -- and traffic -- L'Oreal's Plenitude, for example, led efforts to create skin care departments within health and beauty aids.
