Jan. 21--The first round of bragging rights for supremacy on the basketball court in Yuba City belongs to the Honkers.
Twelve different Yuba City High players scored Saturday night, as the Honkers flew past their cross-town rival River Valley Falcons, 75-47, in Honker Gym. It was the first-ever varsity game between the two teams, and a Tri-County Conference showdown.
One word epitomizes the win -- defense.
"We came out strong, built a 16-point lead, but then let them get back within 11 at the half," Yuba City coach Brad McIntire said. "At halftime, we used very strong vocabulary about playing defense."
