The Cell C public art project of 2002 had 35 artists commissioned to create massive billboards around the inner city and was hailed as one of the most innovative brand campaigns in South Africa.
The billboards, which concealed unoccupied, decaying edifices, emphasised the significance of public art in the revitalising of Johannesburg's inner city.
