Angola is a very poor country and after 27 years of a civil war that ended in February 2002, many of its social institutions and societal infrastructure have collapsed. Inflation has raged for a number of years and is not yet under control. The rate of inflation in 2005 was estimated at 18 percent following inflation in triple digits at the beginning of the millennium.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates that the rate of inflation will have increased 12.9 percent in 2006 and will increase 8.3 percent in 2007
