PARIS _ Cole was kidding. The only person who could love Paris in August would be a penny-pinching columnist offered a chance to write about a budget excursion.
I would have preferred April, of course. ``April in Paris'' is a better song. (It is no mystery why there's no ditty called ``August in Paris.'')
But Wings of the World (World Airways) was offering its $199 (one-way) no-advance-purchase-needed summer special to Charles DeGaulle Airport, and the San Jose Mercury News was looking for a volunteer to test-pilot the trip.
