Much of the Civil War was fought in the valley between the Allegheny and Blue Ridge Mountains. This book is a study of how the people from two valley counties--Franklin County, Pennsylvania and Augusta County, Virginia--experienced the period from August 1859 up to the days before the Battle of Gettysburg.
