23 JANUARY 2007 SUVA (Pacnews) - Fiji's interim government may rule for five years in the Pacific Island nation before general elections are held.
The official secretary in the President's House Rupeni Nacewa said this was merely a timeframe the interim government has given itself.
Fiji Live reports the timeframe was to enable the Interim Government led by interim Prime Minister and army commander Commodore Frank Bainimarama to carry out its clean up campaign.
Mr Nacewa said it could take even shorter than five years depending on how soon the campaign was completed.
