NEW YORK -- Designers are going to the sock hop. They are looking back in time to the all-American '50s preppie-style white sock for fashion inspiration for spring '95.
It's not only white bobby socks that are making their presence known in licensed designer lines, but light, neutral shades of oatmeal, off-white, ecru, cream and other natural shades are being dramatically increased in designer lines.
In some cases, white and shades of white now make up as much as 60 percent of manufacturers' designer lines -- colors that at one lime were mostly found in performance-sport offerings only.
