Jan. 24--A group of Salinas community leaders is heading up to Oakland today to participate in the first meeting of the California Cities Gang Prevention Network, a 13-city group organized to head off escalating gang violence. Mayor Dennis Donohue, along with Police Chief Daniel Ortega, gang prevention counselor Brian Contreras, Pastor Frank Gomez, Police Commander Trevor Iida and Summer Prather, resource specialist with the Santa Rita Union School District, will spend two days with representatives from San Francisco, San Jose and 10 other cities to discuss ways to prevent gang crime.
