Bruce Tanski hopes his baseball team and the natural interest of schoolchildren might be just what he needs to persuade the government to let him keep his pet.
The Clifton Park builder said he plans to apply for a permit to keep the giant red kangaroo, which he adopted through a New York City-based exotic-animal importing company. He will ask to keep the animal on the grounds that it will be used for exhibition and educational purposes.
The Gremlins, Tanski's modified fast-pitch baseball team in the Troy League, will need a mascot to help them defend their state championship, and Fred is perfect, Tanski said.
