Q. Who is a candidate for genetic counseling?
A. People who have had a child with a genetic problem or people at risk for a genetic problem themselves. The most common kind of patient is still someone coming in for genetic counseling because of her age-related risk. The magic cutoff for women of 35 years is no longer quite as clean as it has been in the past. We are getting referrals for people who are 33 and 34.
