Declaring their intent to move quickly to get to the bottom of the Iran-contra affair, Senate leaders named 11 conservative to moderate Democrats and Republicans Tuesday to serve on a Watergate-style panel to investigate the scandal when Congress reconvenes in January.
Democratic Sen. Daniel Inouye of Hawaii, 62, a World War II war hero who served on the original Watergate committee, was picked to head the panel. The ranking Republican on the panel will be Warren Rudman of New Hampshire, a former state attorney general who also chaired the Senate Select Committee on Ethics.
