In a major policy reversal, Ramsey County officials said Monday that they expect to lift a self-imposed moratorium on accepting federal immigration prisoners at the county jail.
However, there will be restrictions on the type of immigration prisoners that the jail will accept, said Commissioner Rafael Ortega and Sheriff Bob Fletcher.
Among the restrictions: Only illegal immigrants arrested in the Twin Cities will be accepted. They also may limit how long prisoners from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency will be housed at the jail.
