SAN JOSE, Calif. _ Intel Corp. ahs announced that it has started manufacturing a Pentium microprocessor that consumes far less power than current models, a chip aimed at the lucrative and booming notebook computer market.
The chip will appear in ``luxury'' notebooks _ full-featured machines with price tags of $4,000 to $6,000 or more _ by the end of the year. Analysts expect the chip to power less expensive notebook computers a year after that.
Intel's aim with the low-power Pentium is the same as with its current, more power-hungry cousins: to get manufacturers to stop using the popular 486-style processor, for which Intel has significant competitors, and move to the ...
