The merger of two Capital District law firms may create an entity whose power is felt far beyond the courtroom or the boardroom.
The latest local ripple in the nationwide trend toward legal-firm mergers involves two attorneys who are among the area's most influential politicians, state Sen. Howard C. Nolan Jr., D- Albany, and Albany Mayor Thomas M. Whalen III.
The long-awaited merger between Whalen's firm, the 150-year-old Cooper, Erving & Savage of 35 State St., and Nolan & Heller of 50 Chapel will become effective Dec. 1.
