The state Health Department will be contacting 5,000 Capital District women over the next few months, seeking volunteers for a $1.7 million study on early pregnancy loss as an indicator of environmental health effects.

The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta plans to fund the five-year study. Funding of $245,000 has been committed for the first year, with subsequent annual funding dependent on the study's progress, Health Department spokeswoman Faith Schottenfeld said Wednesday.
