The nation's biggest health-insurance association has voted to revoke the membership of Blue Shield of Northeastern New York because of continuing financial problems.
The revocation - which is being held in abeyance while it is appealed - would cost the local health plan the name and trademark under which it has conducted business for about 40 years. Blue Shield would be forced to change its name and reissue benefit cards to about 250,000 people, or about 45 percent of Capital District residents.
