Tom Jenkins was very nervous on his first day as a postal letter carrier, preoccupied with matching the names on letters with the numbers on houses, oblivious of his surroundings.
That is, until a big, chained husky leaped from his dozing place in the shrubbery and locked his sharp teeth on Jenkin's hip.
"He worked his way up my arm," recalled Jenkins of the ordeal in August 1981. "I didn't have any feeling in my arm for two days."
Jenkins, now a delivery supervisor, sports a scar as a memento of the ordeal.
