"Unproductive and lazy." That, Barbara Zaron said, is the stereotyped popular image of her and other public employees, including the 25,000 who work in the Capital District.
Fed up with that image, 13 groups of government workers got together Monday to announce that May 12 each year will be designated as Public Employees Recognition Day.
Government workers are "very often maligned," said Zaron, who is chairwoman of the coalition and president of the Organization of New York State Management/Confidential Employees. "We want to counter the perception they get good salaries and don't do anything for it."
