A Republican proposal for a public referendum on Albany County's proposed $45 million civic center was rejected Monday night by the county legislature.
Resolutions proposed by minority party members frequently arerelegated to committees to languish for months on end. But Delmar Legislator Robert Hoffmeister's call for a public vote on the downtown civic-center project didn't make it even that far and died quickly as the legislature voted down the proposalalong party lines, 22-11.
Hoffmeister has said he fears the multimillion-dollar projectwill raise taxes, something Democrats have vowed will never happen. ...
