Jascha Heifetz, regarded as the greatest violin virtuoso of the 20th century, died early Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, several weeks after undergoing brain surgery following a fall at his Beverly Hills home. He was 86.
The intensely private musician had been hospitalized under the name Jim Hoyl, an alias he used as a composer of popular songs. He had also undergone neurosurgery at the same hospital.
