After six games of his first season as Albany State's basketball coach, Barry Cavanaugh found himself and his team at a crossroads.

Albany was 3-3 ... not great, but considering the difficult schedule, not horrible. But locked inside the break- even record was a disturbing trend, one that was starting to leave a bitter taste for all concerned.

The Danes were losing games they should have won.

And so, when Albany had wasted all of a nine- point second-half lead to Hamilton last Friday, it looked for all the world that the Danes would again fold.
