A State University of New York student charged Wednesday that SUNY's Research Foundation has violated university guidelines by doing "Star Wars" research.

SUNY Buffalo student Eric Goldhagen told SUNY trustees in Albany that a $1.9 million contract with the Defense Nuclear Agency violates a ban on secret research because it allows the agency to classify the findings.

But agency spokeswoman Cheri Abdelnour said, "Universities are not set up to work with classified material. The work would cease if the material started going in that direction."
