Jan. 24--NICEVILLE -- State and federal game managers have characterized the local 2006-2007 whitetail deer hunting season as very good so far, maybe one of the best in recent memory. Niceville High School senior Thomas Laurenza and his father, Frank, would probably agree. Thomas, then 17 years old, harvested one of the nicest whitetails to come off the Eglin reservation as of early January. The bowhunter's Oct. 14 buck had an 11-point symmetrical rack -- there was an unmatched tine on the left antler -- measuring a notch more than 121 inches on the Boone and Crockett Club scale.
