Jan. 24--INDEPENDENCE -- Capacity at the Buchanan County Jail shrank again recently after being downgraded for several state code violations.
Chief Jail Inspector Mike Richardson reduced the daily limit from 22 inmates to 17 after a visit in December. A report sent to Sheriff Bill Wolfgram on Jan. 2 pointed to 11 areas where the 66-year-old jail violated state guidelines. Those infractions include outdated electrical wiring, inadequate heating systems and an overall lack of space to properly house inmates.
