Over the past several weeks, within Congress and without, serious questions have been raised about Judge Robert Bork's writings and about his thinking on the role of the Supreme Court in American government.
On balance, however - and despite reservations we have - Judge Bork's nomination for U.S. Supreme Court justice should be approved by the Senate. It is highly doubtful that any other jurist the President would pick, and the Senate would find acceptable, would be as qualified as Judge Bork.
