Sid Watters has been coming to Saratoga since 1935, but he never left a bigger winner than Monday, when the 24-day meet ended.
"I rode steeplechase in those days," said Watters, 60, who won his first outright training title this meet with 12 winners. "I guess I've been coming here a long time."
Watters and Mack Miller were in a tight battle most of the meet before Watters opened a three-victory lead Sunday. When Miller packed his bags and took Monday off, it was over.
"I didn't expect to do this," said Watters, who tied with Woody Stephens and Allen Jerkens for the Saratoga title in 1978. "Everything's got to go ...
